The name “crbnchanger” is composed of crbn (reduced form for “carbon”) and changer (in reference to the “gamechanger”, a person who changes something completely). We change too, because we act and reduce CO₂ emissions. Without bluffing. Without greenwashing. Without compensation.

The idea.

The idea behind #crbnchanger is a community dedicated to reducing the carbon footprint. It was launched in 2023 by Marcus Florek, the CEO of Luana AG and initiator of #crbnchanger. Through sustainable energy supply (e.g. through PV), Luana AG ensures a “real” reduction in emissions instead of “only” compensating.

The idea is supported by the Luana vision of collectively shaping the world more sustainable. We are looking for partners who identify with this vision and—together with Luana AG—support us in spreading the idea of #crbnchanger and driving this project forward.

Who we are

We are sustainable companies and responsible individuals who have joined forces and share the same goal: decarbonisation. Now!

Who are #crbnchangers? They can be companies that either act particularly sustainably and/or companies that identify with the goals of the #crbnchangers. Do we control this? No. We do not make any money from any #crbnchanger awards. We also do not offer paid advertising space. We do not sell leads or data. We act in the spirit of climate action and seek allies.

Can private individuals be #crbnchangers? Of course, because everyone can make a difference. Everybody’s contribution counts, so we decided to give all people (and not just companies) the opportunity to call themselves #crbnchangers and act accordingly.

What we do

We don’t talk, we act. We act and reduce CO₂ emissions together: several thousand tonnes every year. Emissions reduction: every month, every week, every day. Now!

Sustainable energy supply

Our sustainable and ecological energy centres, which we as Luana AG plan, build and operate together with our partners, i.e. within the #crbnchanger network, save several tonnes of CO₂ every year and help to promote climate change and reduce the carbon footprint. How do we do this? We mainly use photovoltaics (PV), but heat pumps can also be used.

Reduce CO₂ emissions

Our projects ensure an ecological, sustainable, and resource-saving energy supply. Every year we save many tonnes of CO₂ and we are very proud of this. Thanks to our many years of experience as an ecological energy supplier, some of our customers entrust us with the equipping of entire residential quarters or large real estate portfolios (e.g. of hotel chains)—which makes us happy as #crbnchangers, because the larger our projects are, the more emissions can be saved.

In addition, we are developing further projects to exploit other possibilities for CO₂ reduction, such as cooperation with other sustainable companies, from which synergies arise.

What we do not do

We reject greenwashing and money-making for good PR. We are not interested in compensation, but in avoiding CO₂ emissions right from the start. Now!

Greenwashing

We strongly reject PR methods that aim to give a company an environmentally friendly and responsible image in the public eye without sufficient basis for doing so. #crbnchanger is not about image. #crbnchanger is about much more—about our earth.

Our motto can be summed up in one sentence by a quote from UN Secretary General António Guterres at the World Climate Conference in November 2022:

„We must have zero tolerance for net-zero greenwashing.“*

Compensations

Offsets are „payments to finance greenhouse gas mitigating investments „*. These offsets may soothe the guilty conscience, but

„offsetting does not encourage people to avoid emissions“.**

Climate neutrality at the push of a button is quick, convenient and suggests that climate-damaging behaviour is fine as long as it is offset.

It is not, we think.

Offsetting is better than doing nothing, but we think the first step should come before the second instead of skipping it. So: think first, avoid, and then—if there is no other option—compensate.

FEMO® box: heart of heating centers

In a care facility in Lower Saxony, we were able to reduce gas consumption by 20% by using the FEMO® box. The property comprises two buildings and provides space for 88 residential units and a day care facility with 16 places on 10,000 m² of living space.

Efficient energy supply

A nursing home in Lower Saxony with eight buildings and 80 residential units is supplied with energy via a combined heat and power plant and a state-of-the-art gas condensing boiler. This reduces the property's energy requirements.

Energy center for residential quarter

A residential quarter in Berlin with over 110 parties was equipped with a CHP unit with 50 kW electrical output and 100 kW thermal output. In addition, a boiler with 290 kW thermal output was installed for the supply.

Energy efficient heating center

The energy generation plant of the senior citizens’ residence was refurbished. By replacing the existing 2.2 MW coal-fired system, a significant reduction in sulfur and soot emissions was achieved.

The vegetable farm from Lower Saxony grows tomatoes and cucumbers year-round on a cultivation area of 5.6 hectares. As the plants are very sensitive to low temperatures, our CO₂-neutral heat generation is a relevant building block for a high crop yield.
