What does the name Luana actually mean?
The Luana Group was founded in 2008, followed by the founding of Luana AG in 2019 (find out more about our company history here). We, the employees of the Luana Group, call ourselves „Luanas“ internally. When emails are sent to the so-called „at-all-mailing-list“, colleagues start their salutation with „Dear Luanas“, for example.

Luana is a first name of Hawaiian origin that carries various positive meanings, including „happy“, „relaxed“ and „content“. Is Luana a rare name?
In Germany yes, in Brazil no
Luana is a rather rare name in Germany and other German-speaking countries. The Society for the German Language regularly determines the most common first names in Germany. It has been publishing overviews based on data from German registry offices since 1977. In 2023, around 750 registry offices across Germany submitted almost 900,000 individual names. Luana has not yet made it onto the list of the most popular first names in Germany.
In Brazil, however, Luana is a relatively common name, as it is in Italy and other parts of Europe. According to the BabyNames.ch website, the name Luana consistently made it into the top 100 most popular female first names in Brazil between 2009 and 2017. The rarity of a name depends heavily on the geographical region and cultural popularity.

How did Luana AG get its name?
The story of the shareholder’s daughter
A start-up requires a lot of commitment and dedication. When the Luana Group was founded in 2008, there was a partner whose wife was pregnant. He was so committed to the company’s success that he flew to Italy on the day his daughter was born to install the first PV systems. His daughter Luana was born on the same day. In recognition of his extraordinary commitment, the shareholders jointly decided to name the company after his daughter—as they did with Mercedes.
